thankful, thanksgiving, thanks

Thanks, no matter what happens

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 in the NIV reads like this:

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

The Message says it like this:

16-18 Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.

Ah yes! It’s November, Thanksgiving month, and we are seeing people giving thanks everywhere. I preached on this scripture in July in our home church, Seacoast Vineyard Church(you can watch it HERE, it’s Week 3). The past couple of months I have had the opportunity to live what I preached. In the middle of storms, flooding, an unexpected kitchen leak, and a very sick kid, rejoicing didn’t always come very easy I am sad to say.  However, one thing from those verses that has often rolled off my tongue in this time is thankfulness.  And many of you have been the reason for my thanksgiving.  We have shared about the damage we sustained and the loss, but because of your prayers and financial support, Shiloh Place and team members, Chip and Katie Holt are bouncing back!  Sure we are still playing catch up but we are making progress.  In the midst of it all, there has been so much and is so much to be thankful for.

For starters

let me give you a report from Chip and Katie. Their entire house was stripped to the studs 4 feet up from the floor. Then it was treated for mold. Then the rehab started. It’s unbelievable how much was done in a month and a half. People have come out to help physically and financially from Seacoast Vineyard, YWAM, Shiloh Place, Impact ministries and friends and family since the historic flooding seeped into their house and the Shiloh Place offices. This has resulted in new insulation, sheetrock, cabinets, trim and paint. Tomorrow starts the new flooring going in! This afternoon a team from Shiloh Place is going out to clean and get ready for the flooring crew.

The Holts have seen the love of God show up in the hands and feet of some wonderful people. They have been overwhelmed by the financial gifts that came in through Shiloh Place and other places. They are way ahead of most people because of it. Not everything is paid for yet but they are so thankful for all the help they have received.  Though they had just released their first EP a few months ago, the recent circumstances have birthed more songs. One of them is a song called I Choose You. It summarizes their faith struggle with not only suffering flood damage, but Chip having lost his job a week prior to hurricane Florence and yet, knowing God is the restorer of all things.

As for Shiloh Place itself,

we are still recovering. All of this happened as we went into our busy season. We found ourselves operating in multiple locations while holding several incredible encounters and traveling for events at the same time. I think my head is still spinning a bit. I can’t believe how much has taken place in the last two months. Robin Primrose, who is our only employee other than myself, has carried the burden of maintaining the books, attempting to keep up with orders and preparing for events all from where ever the office may be at that moment. He has done an amazing job of herding the cats!   Thankfully we have been offered office space that will meet our immediate need. It is likely not a long-term situation but it will give us a home base for 6 months to a year while we pray about what is the best long-term solution.  We should be able to get settled in there by next month.

And finally,  I am also thankful for every one of you who have given to us not only financially but in words of encouragement in this season.  It has meant the world to us.  Because of your extra gifts, we will be able to recover some of what we lost in the office and begin paying a manageable rent that will give us some stability again.

In some forward-thinking news,

we are about to release a new version of the Experiencing Father’s Embrace Video Guide. It will be a bound book coming from a printer rather than a spiral bound booklet. We will also soon be releasing a downloadable version of the Experiencing Father’s Embrace DVD series. The other DVD series will be getting new guides and become downloadable soon as well. We don’t have an exact date. We will figure it out better once Chip and Katie get back in their home. Chip is heading up those projects but has been spending what seems like 12 hours a day at their house trying to get back in. It looks like all of his hard work will pay off though. They hope to be in by the 27th. Another thing to be thankful for this month.

What are you thankful for right now? That is often a difficult question but maybe you can find just one thing. That one thing can start a chain reaction which can turn your day around.  As I said at the start, we are thankful for you, your prayers, and your support!

Be blessed, receive His love and give it away to the next person you meet!

There were so many moments during our class time in November that I thought to myself ” Wow! God is certainly faithful in the storm and in the aftermath of the storm” for these amazing followers of Christ. Your ability to march on as though all these circumstances were not, gave and continue to give good reason to Praise God as His glory shines through your dedication to perseverance. Another thing that I am convinced of is that the Lord will keep you in accordance with Paul’s Prayer for Spiritual Growth in Ephesians 3:

14 When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, 15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth 16 pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
20Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. 21Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.
Forever blessed by my time spent in your midst.
